Bob Penfold

Bob Penfold was born, raised and spent all of his life in Newcastle, an industrial city 100 miles north of Sydney. Living so close to the ocean, with some of the world's best surfing beaches on his doorstep, fishing and then spear-fishing were his early passions. Kay was living on a dairy farm at the time, so he seized the opportunity to progress to hunting rabbits, ducks, foxes and kangaroos. Bob then graduated to feral pigs, feral goats and then to serious deer hunting, which he he pursued passionately around the world to this day.
In the late 70's, he met John Berry and hunted the majestic species of the mountains of New Zealand. He became hooked on the high adventure and advanced to commercial Buffalo hunting in Australia's Northern Territory.
Following his first hunt in North America in 1979, which included Alaska, Canada and Montana, Bob knew what he wanted to do with the rest of his life… "To show the world's adventurers the 'real' Australia. The Australia that normal tourists never have the chance to experience…The high adventure Australia, which can only be seen through the eyes of the big game hunter."
Bob says "There is no other superb adventure opportunity in the world today, that could compare with what we have on offer in the Australian outback".
Penfold established Hunt Australia in 1980 and has never looked back since. Bob had hunted Alaska, Canada and several locations in the lower 48 and Mexico as a hunting client, so he understood the requirements of hunting clients. Once he began travelling to the annual Safari Club International conventions in USA, he became aware of a whole new world, one that he has been deeply involved in ever since…
Bob was instrumental in starting the South Pacific Chapter of SCI, based in Australia. Now there are several active chapters in the South Pacific region. Over the years he hunted extensively in North America, taking most big game species. He has hunted Europe and Asia taking many different species in various countries. He also guided in and been responsible for exploring hunting opportunities in New Guinea, Indonesia, New Caledonia as well as numerous less well-known places in Australia's remote outback.
In late 2005 Penfold sold his Hunt New Zealand operation to Kiwi Safaris New Zealand and Hunt Australia to Matt Graham. Bob is retained by both outfits as a hunting consultant, on an ongoing basis.
In January 2006 Bob was admitted to the Weatherby Foundation Board of Directors - he says, the greatest achievement of his hunting career.
Bob's aim has been to help every hunter secure the best possible hunt and trophies available. His motto for the last 23 years has been "ANY GAME, ANY FISH, ANYWHERE, ANY TIME".
