Hog
Deer are available wild and free in the legal open season of the month
of April in Victoria.
If your hunt is in Victoria the arrival city is Melbourne. Your guide
will meet you and drive you to your Hog Deer hunting area in Victoria's
coastal farming and grazing country.
Hunting
Method
Hunting in each area is by a short pre-dawn drive to the hunting area
and then by stalking on foot. The terrain is generally flat grassy farmlands
and low area swamps.
The best time to hunt is as early as possible in the season in Victoria.
Equipment
You should bring a rifle of minimum 270W calibre, with 7MM Mag or 300
Win Mag being highly desirable.
Ammunition should be accurate, premium grade, as there are often long
range shots to be taken.
Clothing
should be cotton camouflage or similar, with a warm jacket for early
morning and late evening hunts. Boots should be lightweight vibram soled
(preferably waterproof) walking boots. You will require good quality
binoculars.
Weather Conditions
The weather in the hunting season throughout the month of April in Victoria
is warm to cool days with cool to cold nights.
